Ken Block Trophy
2012 FIXTURE PREVIEW
This year we have a fixture list of 34 matches (which can be seen here), I hope we can raise 11 players for all of them (except may be the 6-a-side ones).
No doubt our hardcore fans (aka 'Ultras') will first look out for our Ken Block Trophy games against 'rivals' Dodgers which will take place on Wednesday 23rd May, Tuesday 7th August and (an afternoon match on) Wednesday 18th July. Obviously we hope to retain the trophy in these games.
However there are many other highlights. We have five new opponents this year - Dept for Education, Tilberg, Nomura, RSSB and a new DfT based side called 'Green Sox'- which brings a real variety to the fixture list. In addition for the first (and second) time we are due to play Kings College in an afternoon game and welcome back New Barbarian Weasels after being unable to get a date last year. Of course there are the regular favourites too - last year's 'favourite opposition' (a new pavillion and Jason's mum's teas helped i suspect there) Dartford Harriers are scheduled, as are LSE - the opponents for the last Superstars' century (modesty dictates etc) and the 2020 tournament at the Bank of England as well as all the old Twenty20 favourites like Ad Hoc, Science and LT Dinos.
This year we have 11 afternoon matches scheduled, which compares favourably for the cricketing purist against the 5 we ended up playing last year. In addition we have 20 evening Twenty20 matches, 1 Twenty20 afternoon tournament and two 6-a-side tournaments. Games span from 2nd May to 14th September.
Those who enjoyed last year's close fixture against Kensington Wanderers will be disappointed to hear they dropped out of a fixture we'd had confirmed for two months because they had a better offer. Black mark for them!
Finally it's worth pointing out the tour covers four games and might well be the pinnacle of the season, especially with such exciting opponents like Hambledon (the Cradle of Cricket), Brockenhurst (nestled in the New Forest), A Rest of the World XI (at the beautiful looking and famous Broadhalfpenny Down ground) and another beautiful looking ground in Rotherfield Park.
I look forward to seeing you, remember the close-season is far too long so get involved before it's all too late!
