Mike won the toss on a blustery afternoon on the Regents Park 'Minor Counties' pitch and
chose to bat first. Vijay and Adam got off to a steady start, scoring at about 5 an over. The slow outfield meant this was mainly down to
good running between the wickets and Adam fell, caught at mid on for 16, in an attempt to up the rate with some boundaries. Jamie and Jez
were both bowled for 0 before Vijay retired, bringing Sandeep and Merv to the crease together. The running deteriorated a little and
Superstars were in a bit of trouble when Merv (6) and Archie (3 on debut) were dismissed to leave Superstars 80-5 in the 17th.
Sandeep had some big hits in his 17 but was bowled going for one too many and Mike T was run out shortly after for 1. Alok then took 16
from the 18th over and, after Mike D had sacrificed himself for 0 knowing that Vijay could come back in, Vijay added some more
big hits in the 20th to take the score to 117-8, with Vijay 32 not out and Alok 21 not out. |

Adhoc seemed confident of chasing down the runs but didnt figure in a fiery
opening spell from Sandeep (3-0-9-1, including another broken bail!) and excellent deployment of the Roy Method(TM) from Jez (3-1-17-2).
Mike T (3-0-16-0) and Merv (3-0-10-1) both bowled tightly with good fielding, especially an excellent catch by debutant
Archie from a skier off Merv, and the slow outfield making it difficult for the Adhoc middle order to score. Archie's first Superstars
delivery removed the only batsman to reach double figures and he finished with 2-0-6-2. For the second time in a week it was then
the turn of the Alok / Mike D spin partnership to effectively finish things off. And, again for the second time in a week, Mike's slow
ones yielded more wickets. Alok (3-1-3-1) got his one caught by Jez at cover and Mike D (1.4-0-7-2) got his obligatory stumping,
by Jamie this time, who also picked up a catch. With a Vijay run out also thrown in, Ad Hoc were bowled out for 84 in 18.4 overs to
give Superstars victory by 33 runs and a small amount of revenge for the 2 drubbings they received at the hands of Ad Hoc last year. |
