HAPLESS GIGG PLAYS LITERAL BLINDER. |
Superstars arrived in Putney for a game against Bricklayers Arms
at a new ground, Wandsworth Park, near the historic River Thames. |
Bricklayers won the toss and elected to bat on an uneven looking
surface. Their innings of 142 was dominated by Patel (64no, no retirements!), while John Bishop's 4-2-7-1 was
outstanding. |
At the innings break Bricklayers suggested bowling all the overs
from one end because the low sun would make life difficult to bat. Barry declined. You may hear mention of this
decision again. |
Not long after Superstars were bowled out for a club record low
score of 39 in 16 overs. The highest scorer was John Bishop with a stunning, in the circumstances, 7. There
were seven batsmen bowled, 2 lbws while the hapless Gigg was of course run out. The players couldn't see the
ball because of the sun - if only we'd be warned. |
So Superstars lost by 103 runs but we would have won if it wasn't
for Barry's lack of appreciation for the big ball of fire in the sky. Shocking. |
