ALLSTARS
Wednesday 7th August, 6pm start.
Abbey Recreation Ground, South Wimbledon.
t20 match, it had rained for bits of the day.
HEWLETT HUMBLED
On a gloomy evening at Abbey Rec, Gigg (predictably) lost the toss and were put into bat on a track only just distinguishable from the green outfield. Superstars were dealt a blow in the first over when Vijay couldn't keep on top of a short delivery and was well caught by the retreating square leg fielder. There was then a period of reconciliation between Conway (25*) and Warren (23) with good running, the odd boundary and plenty of extras keeping the score ticking over. After both set batsmen departed Reeve also came and went quickly for a golden duck. It was then left to Gigg - having a resurgent 2019 season - to continue the scoring with some delicate legside flicks, classy straight drives and (relatively) sensible running before also retiring on 25. Duggan and Plahe then provided some late order lusty blows to leave Superstars on an above par score of 130-5.
Alok opened then opened and produced an incredible spell of swing bowling, effortlessly hooping the ball back into the succession of right handed batsmen. The All Stars opener went first ball bringing the familiar face of Hewlett (who must have more clubs than Tiger Woods) to the crease. He was the next to go two balls later, once again beaten by the lethal swing. Alok picked up his third when the dangerous looking number 4 tried to send the ball north of the Thames but missed and heard the familiar sound of stumps falling. Alok finished with 3-1-2-3 in a terrific display. He was well backed up by Plahe and Vijay who both kept the scoring down while picking up a wicket a piece. There was still time for Duggan to pick up a wicket too, stumped by Gigg. The spin options of Reeve and Thomson also utilised to go effect. All Stars did begin to score more freely after the torturous start and despite two retirements of their own never realistically never challenged the Superstars total finishing on 110-5.
A comfortable win for Superstars in a game they were always in control of.

Notes.
Notable drops: None
Notable catch: None
Comedy moment: None
Stat: Because of the bizarre way stats are compiled Alok's 3-1-2-3 is no form of record, but it doesn't take Bill Frindell to work out that's good bowling.
