SUPERSTARS TRIPLE COLLAPSE |
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
After Barry (obviously) lost the toss, which took a bit later than ideal, we were asked
to field. Alok took a wicket early but without being spanked the Dinos made good progress. Debutants Wright and Salter came on in
the middle overs with Salter claiming two wickets. Duggan showed his new post hat trick confidence by bowling in the death overs
and conceding less than a run a ball. With Bishop (1 over) and the returning Singh rounding out the 18 overs Dinos made 118 in
18 overs (6.6 runs per over). A little note for Natalie wicket keeping in the second half of the innings, difficult thing to
learn on the job but doing ok! It looked par on a reasonable wicket but yet again Superstars looked light on batting. |

Unfortunately Superstars didn't bat well, with two awful collapses (from 12-0 to 16-3
and from 29-3 to 31-6) leaving opener Gaught shell-shocked at the non-strikers end. Gaught retired on 25 (with Superstars at 38-6)
and after a flurry of activity there was another collapse from 51-6 to 59-8. Gigg and number 11 Alok Singh were at the crease
in what seemed an impossible task. Unfortunately Gigg was bowled for 12 leaving Superstars 76-9 requiring 43 to win from 3 overs and
one wicket in hand. Gaught returned to the crease and watched as Alok caused carnage with 17 in the next over. Was it on? Well 26
in 2 overs is still very difficult. 5 runs in 3 balls kept us in the hunt but in the "gathering gloom" (translation "pitch black")
Gaught was bowled and Superstars had lost by 20 runs - bowled out with 8 balls left in an 18 over clash. |

A disappointing day for the Superstars although good to see 2 debutants and the return
of much missed Billy and Natalie. |

Notable catch: Alok's catch was solid,
but probably not notable. |

Stat: Wright and Salter made their debut.
I wonder if Alok's 34 not out is the top score by a number 11 in Superstars history. |
