Ten man Superstars put up a decent effort however the lack of numbers and fit players meant
they eventually fell to a hard fought defeat to rivals Dodgers in beautiful conditions at Imber Court. |

With another, less important, cricketing rivalry starting in Nottingham (something called
"The Ashes" - no we haven't heard of it either) the eyes of the cricketing
world were shared between Trent Bridge and Imber Court. After the first game ended in a controversial tie in darkness both sides knew this
was a pivotal match in their season. |

With only 9 men definitely playing and the warm conditions Barry amazingly won the toss and had no
hesitation to bat first. Paul Gaught (bad back) opened with Will. Paul and then Adam were out early but Darth (every injury in the book) helped
Will rebuild the innings. At halfway a platform was established but acceleration was required. Steve fell earlyish after drinks, leaving Barry, Simon
(shoulder) and Vijay to provide impetus. However most of the runs were being provided by the elegance of Will (who had now picked up a muscle strain
and required a runner. The was chaos in the last few overs with Ric Smith (who had now arrived, clearly, making us 10) and Jason both running for Will.
The last ball of the innings produced a run out off a wide and, vitally, got Will on strike to hit the actual last ball for 4 bringing up exactly 100. An excellent
knock which kept us in the game. |

SUperstars opened up with Roy, who dismissed the dangerous Dollin (fresh from a ton versus Green Sox) and Vijay
who kept things tight. It seemed that the key of the match could be the spells by Jason and Simon, who were first change, up against Matt Taylor and
Phil McBarron were batting well. Unfortunately Simon was semi-injured and then Jason pulled a quad muscle running round the boundary. Despite a brave effort Jason had to
leave proceedings (credit to Dodgers for lending us two fielders, one to replace Jason and one to replace Darth who drove his to the station). Although Phil fell
to a fantastic yorker from Vjiay, who took 2 in 2 balls Matt Taylor led Dodgers to a famous win with 4 overs to spare. |

A tough day in Superstars history. It is a huge shame that Will's century had the gloass taken off it
by the loss. But I guess a team of ten players, two of which weren't really fit enough at the start of play and one who couldn't turn up til virtually
half way, should never really win a game of cricket and we're experiencing a lack of players all too regularly this summer. Sets up the final game wonderfully
though. |
