Ken Block Trophy
MATCH REPORT
Opponent
DODGERS
Thursday 29th August, 2pm start.
Abbey Recreation Ground, South Wimbledon.
35 over match, warm day.
Ken Block Trophy, Match 3 of 3 in the 2019 series. Decider.
CLASSLESS DODGERS OUTCLASS SUPERSTARS
Barry won the toss and elected to bat in a must-win Ken Block Trophy decider - after a poor season the Superstars Ultras were desperate for a win over rivals Dodgers. Charlie bowled two cracking deliveries early on to dismiss Gaught (jadded back a mile) and Warren (yorker) that broke the hearts of Superstars. Vijay and Reeve rebuilt but after Vijay was given out LBW (for 22) SUperstars looked to lose confidence. Reeve and Hewlett set a platform but neither they nor none of Gigg, Plahe or Forman were able to explode with Palmer picking up 3 wickets in the middle overs. Alok, in form with the bat after a stunning innings versus Dinos started slowly but grew but he was c&B for 23 but he and Sears, 7no, had got Superstars to a total of 156 which felt at least 25 too light but as Nasser Hussain would say it was "runs on the board" abnd Superstars were hoping to exert some "scoreboard pressure".
Alok and Konrad opened with pace and skill with Komal and NJ struggling. There was an unfortunate incident where NJ clearly edged Konrad through to Barry - the edge was heard by boundary fielders and Dodgers watching in the usual place but apparently not by the ever-competitive Ralph and NJ wasn't willing to do the fitting thing in the Ken Block Trophy and walk. For a while NJ struggled, perhaps through guilt, but when Singh (5-0-15-0) and KCZ (5-2-8-0*) were removed from the attack things seemed to get easier for the Dodgers and both openers retired. By now we were going through the motions and although Vijay took a wicket Dodgers weren't tested and made the runs with 4.2 overs to spare.
A one-sided encounter, but we shall never know what the result would have been if Dodgers had played the match in a way befitting the occasion.

Notes.
Notable drop: Paul at square leg, Barry behind the stumps and I think there were others.
Notable catch: We took no catches.
Comedy Moment: Ralph's umpiring decision was laughable, although not comedy.
Stat: Dodgers' 4 seasons in a row is the longest run in control of the Ken Block Trophy.
