Our first home game of 2016 at Abbey Rec saw Superstars
take on the formidable DWP - the teams were raring to hit the wicket but the grounds man (true to form)
was late to open the changing rooms. Superstars won the toss and elected to bat first on a glorious sunny
evening, Spencer and Bishop were sent out to open the daily account in fine form, Spencer playing
around the park retiring for 27 off 21 balls, supported by Bishop with a valuable 8 runs before being
caught by the keeper. Mir and R.Smith put on 10 quick runs (9 and 1 runs respectively) but
fell to DWP's star bowler Carter who also took the next wicket of William-Jones for 5 runs.
Warren and Anand put on a burst of runs with 30 runs between them, Warren fell to a stumping
for 12, Anand provided some wonderful stroke play with several big hits but with a slow outfield
the boundaries were few and far between scoring 18 not out. Plahe was bowled for 3 runs which brought
"The Legend Himself" Gigg to the crease to score a quick 4 runs not out, Superstars posted a respectable 112. |

Konrad opened the bowling with blistering pace from the start,
taking a clean bowled wicket finishing his four over spell 1 for 23. R.Smith followed up the attack with
laser guided precision taking 3 wickets off his four overs for 14 runs with a catch from Gigg,
a plum LBW and a clean bowled delivery. Bishop bowled a good length and got 1 wicket with R.Smith
providing his catch. Plahe bowled a good line taking 2 wickets off 4 overs for 19 runs, first caught
by Duggan and second cleaned bowled. Anand opened the bowling with Konrad but came back in to the
attack with DWP requiring 4 runs off 9 balls to win, Anand calmly stepped up to the challenge with
two clean bowled wickets at the death to secure Superstars their unbeaten record against DWP all out for 109,
Superstars won by 4 Runs.....Anand takes the Hat Trick opportunity through to the next match against FCO. |
