Ken Block Trophy
v MOTLEY CREW, 22ND MAY 2008
Superstars began with only six players in attendance so captain of vice Chris "Flamingo" Mountain allocated us to bat. Paul "Scooby" Gaught and Nehal "no nickname that i know of" Bhatt strode out to bat. Despite some good opening bowling, especially from the guy bowling right arm round Paul and Nehal accumulated well and were going at 5 an over until Paul tried a crazy run and was run out. With 9 overs gone and SCC now at their full complement of players (9, including the oppo umpire) it was time to hit the accelerator. Kevin "Vettori" Eames ticked the scoreboard over until attempting what seemed a sensible 2nd run, until a great bit of fielding ran him out. Meanwhile Nehal had retired (after a little confusion) on 28. Mark "with a K" Williams looked aggresive from the off, both at the crease and between the wickets, but unfortuately was run out attempting a single even Barry may have decided wasn't on. 3 run outs! Some attempted big hitting from Richard Abigail (6), the Flamingo (2), Sandeep "Carol Vorderman" Kumar (8no), Michael Duggan (1), Ray "the umpire" Parsons (2) and the returning Nehal (28 out) gave SCC a defendable 103.
Sandeep opened the bowling with Chris and kept the runs down. Sandeep bowled out the two openers and SCC were really in the game. After 8 overs Sandeep still felt he had one over left to bowl but unfortunately he was wrong, he retired to the field cursing his poor maths, leaving him on 4-0-7-2 and Chris 0-19. On came SCC's leading taker this year, Michael Duggan and Kevin. Some good, lusty batting meant the scoring rate increased but wickets were falling. Kevin ending with 3-21 and MD with 2-43. SCC can feel disappointed with a couple of catches going down from the Dragons guest fielders but if you only turn up with 8 players you probably deserve that. Nehal came on but Dragons only needed 2 runs to win, a bye won the game (poor wicket keeping from Scooby again!) but a creditable performance.
This means the series ended 1-1, and although captain Gaught thought about a "bowl out" to decide the series he looked round and saw more John Terrys than Owen Hargreaves so decided to get to the bar quickly. Result: SCC lost by 3 wickets
