Steve "The Hobbit" Carter epitomises what Superstars are all about. Where he lacks in skill
he makes up for in endeavour. Where he fails in the field of play he makes up for it in the bar afterwards - numerous stories of him dancing
on tables and everything else serve to demonstrate his true commitment to livening up an evening. His "trademark move" is ranked alongside the
Travolta "Staying Alive" diagonal hand swish and is where he points one finger out from both hands and wiggles each around in the air. Older readers
may remember the "Carter" was a popular dance move in the 90s. |

Scrutiny of some of his achievements from a statistical viewpoint don't tell the full story.
For example 8 catches over 20 years fails to state that they were key match winning catches (possibly). And who can forget that amazing day when Steve
nearly took 5 wickets in a match to put himself near the top of the overall individual bowling stats. Somehow he'd taken 4 wickets with his
incredibly slow dollies which make Mike Duggan's loopier look flat. Then the next batsman comes and hits it fairly high back in Steve's direction.
Other fielders make to home in on the ball but Steve gives a clear shout, and everyone stops to watch his glorious moment. Of course, he dropped it -
but you can't win em all. Steve holds one very important club batting record the most number of dot balls before getting off the mark an incredible 24 balls.

Steve is best remembered for his ability to take the shine of the ball as an opener. Well if you play and
miss so many times it's bound to take the shine off from hitting the pitch, wicket keeper's gloves, disguarded cigarettes etc. He holds the Superstars
record for the most number of balls before getting off the mark - 24 balls of pure shine removal against Pontyberem. |

Steve was a very popular tourist - despite never organising a tour to the Far East where he clearly has contacts.
This was mainly with the members of the card school who considered him a human cash machine for the weekend - you've not lived until you've heard the
heavily alcohol fuelled voice of Mr Carter going "Five Pound Blind" at around 1am in a hotel bar. Superstars folklore is that fellow Hall of Famer Phil Patten
is around 100 quid up on tours - including hotel costs and beers - simply due to Steve's lack of ability at Brag. There are unconfirmed rumours have it that Steve
is as equally gifted with his betting at the horses. |

A founder member, former chairman (those that voted for him have been released back into the community), former treasurer
(until he forgot to file accounts) and occasional Captain, Steve is truly a legend of the greatest proportions. Steve was the first person in the universe to captain
Superstars to a victory on tour. |

There was delight and amusement when Steve reached 1000 runs in 2006. He is currently the 15th highest scorer
in the club's history from his 178 (8th highest) appearences. Let's not talk averages or strike rates. Of greater amusement would be if Steve bowled one more
over, as then he'd qualify for the career bowling averages and (barring an over of crazy scoring) would beat more vaunted bowlers like Tom Wilson,
Mike Kamellard, Michael Duggan, Jason Marchant, Tony Whitrod, Chris Mountain, Merv Aranha, Jeremy Keates, Matt Conway and Mike Taylor. |
