Superstars 2008 tour consisted of one game and a nature walk. On Friday we played Rickmansworth CC, rain reduced to 16 overs a-side. Superstars
won the toss by default due to lack of players, with Gaught and Walker opening our first innings of the year. On a new astroturf wicket and with a saturated outfield, boundaries were few and far
between, but they progressed steadily and had put on 40 in 8 overs before Paul was smartly stumped. Gigg strode purposefully to the crease and, fresh from sunning himself on the Med, flayed the
ball to all corners, making a quick-fire 30. Walker was cutting and driving his way to 30 when Gigg retired tired, with Walker following soon after, run out in the 13th. Kumar and Mountain
didn't shine and dragged the score to a respectable 85-2. |

Ricky started well and a few boundary byes allowed the home side to get well ahead of the required rate. A hook for four off a Kumar beamer was a good
example of Ricky's batting ability. Wickets were needed and arrived at convenient intervals, with debutant Dan Taylor gloriously picking up three, including the overseas professional.
Aranha keep it tight and solid death bowling from Mountain and Meyler combined with good catching resulted in a nerve jangling finale, with two to win off the last ball. Like every other delivery
in the over, the batsman turned it into a full toss with an athletic charge, but this time punched it into Dan Taylor's chest at deepish mid on. With the eerie mist rolling in and the sun dipping,
Dan managed to hold onto the soapy reddish brown ellipsoid to secure a memorable win against strong opponents. |

After a very enjoyable few beers in Rickmansworth on the Friday night all that remained of the tour was a nature walk on Saturday morning as our other
opponents had pulled out. Chris and Mike took on the David Bellamy role pointing out flora and fauna, while Paul G put his foot in a really boggy bit of a river. And then it was time to leave a rather damp
Hertfordshire. |
