v AD HOC EXILES, 17TH MAY 2011
HIMANSHU AND MOXON GO LIKE TRAINS, BUT SUPERSTARS DERAILED BY EXCELLENT ATOC OUTFIT
ATOC 198-2 (Moxon 2-39) BEAT
Superstars 136-9 (Gautam 50no) by 62 runs.
At a ground nosier than an IPL venue (due to the planes, not the vociferous Superstars "barmy army") Barry lost the lost and we were invited to field. ATOC looked a good side from the off with some lovely shots, some lucky shots all on a flat Chiswick wicket with one less fielder (the game was 10 a side). Superstars however bowled decently and with the odd exception fielded safely but despite this runs were scored at a very good pace. Roy Varghese and Ian Moxon opened the bowling, with Ian the only bowler to a take a wicket (4-0-39-2). Adam Spencer (4-0-40-0) and Mike the Scarecrow (4-0-33-0) bowled gamely and then Paulo Andrews, returning from retirement Muhammad Ali style, got in on the act with a tidy 3-0-17-0. Himanshu Gautam (1-0-9-0) and Roy (4-0-33-0) finished off the innings which ended on a commanding 198-2!
Superstars gave it a go, but once Gaught (14), Gigg (13) and Ratcliff (18) were out much of the hope was lost. The rest of the order played for the team, but it was too much to expect to reach 199. However the kindness of the ATOC side in giving us a last man stand meant that Himanshu scored his first ever 50 for Superstars, hopefully the first of a long and illustrious career. Superstars finished on a face-saving 136-9.
A tough opposition but Superstars will play worse this year and win. The game was possibly the first Superstars have ever played with an orange ball, and that certainly helped in the gloom. Oh and the ground's bar now has lager and bitter on tap!! Hoorah!
