Ken Block Trophy
v ATOC, 17TH JUNE 2008
Superstars took on ATOC in a thrilling match held on a beautiful evening in Regents Park.
Captain of many vices Paul Gaught was promoted to skipper the side and followed tradition by losing the toss. ATOC asked us to bat. Despite struggling for form Gaught opened with Will dont ruin my new bat Walker and Will started as if he had somewhere else to be very quickly. Paul didnt and was out for 2, Mark with a K Williams followed quickly for one. Will retired for 28. Mike nose bleed at number four Taylor and Simon side no longer strained Gundry knocked the ball around pleasantly before Mike was bowled for 18 and Simon retired on 25. The slog was on now and Raj smacked 18 in quick time (including 2 massive 6s), Paulo Andrews and Michael Duggan both recorded 0s in the effort for quick runs and it was left to Paul Dyett (14no, including 3 fours) and James Allen-Perry (2no) to get the team to 118 for 6 off our 20 overs.
Unfortunately Sandeep crashed server Kumar was unable to open the bowling (as he was not at the ground!) so James Jimmy Anderson Allen-Perry and Paulo determined to get Billy out Andrews opened up. Opening the batting for ATOC was Michael more clubs than Paris Hilton Dollin who had played for us last week and normally turns out for Dodgers. James bowled well (3-0-13-0) but it was left to Paulo to take the glory with 4-0-21-3, including two good catches from Gaught (to dismiss the dangerous Paris Hilton) and Taylor. Unfortunately Billy should have been playing for us Denyer was batting well and had to retire. Paul Dyett (3-0-10-1), Raj (3-0-25-1) and Michael Duggan (2-0-18-0) bowled in the middle overs (the wickets to good catches from JA-P and Mike T) but with 5 overs left ATOC needed 22 for victory. It was a time for quality bowlers with a steel nerve, but unfortunately we dont have any of those so Gaught opted for Gundry and Taylor. Luckily Simon (2-0-2-1) and Mike bowled fantastically and Mike caught and bowled the returning Denyer (30) to finish with 2-0-9-3 and bowl out ATOC for 109. Hooray!
Superstars won by 9 runs
The day ended with amusing drinks in the Green Man, with the CEO of the Rail Safety Board (not ATOC as I thought for most of the night) and the opposition. Well done everyone!
Team: Gaught, Walker, Mark Williams, Taylor, Gundry, Vadgama, Andrews, Duggan, Allen-Perry, Dyett
