RETIRING BANKERS OUTCLASS SUPS |
To be honest the first 15 overs were carnage with the only
bright spot Vijay bowling the opener. Vijay sportingly declared a not out when his thigh dislodged a nail
during a run out attempt. Paul dropped a catch on the boundary off Mike D's bowling and the fielding in
general was lacklustre (without being downright awful). Konrad, Stan, Chrissie, JB and Mike all struggled
however the bright spot was Alok, once he realised Hammersmith Bridge was closed like it's been for four
months now. Late to the match Alok's 4-0-15-2 was a bright spot and also gave us an, unfortunately
unsuccessful, hat trick ball. |

In reply George and Rob K were both out first ball (Rob for 2 games
in a row) and Vijay made an unusually low 7. There was a fightback of sorts, a bit like Walter the Softie
tapping Anthony Joshua on the shoulder after AJ had landed a dozen haymakers, with Gaught (run out 16)
and Gigg (caught for 14) building partnerships with JB (29 not out) to ensure a modicum of respectability
was achieved as the 100 run loss was averted. There was a late collapse with another golden duck (Alok)
while only Konrad (6) avoided a binary boy score in the bottom five. |

A loss by 84 runs against excellent opponents makes it
hard to judge but safe to say it was a fair result. |

TREASURY COUNT COST OF EARLY CHAOS |
After an excellent tea Superstars took on Treasury in an exciting
and rather bizarre match for the bronze medal. We bowled first and an electric start from Alok (3 wickets) and
Konrad (1) had Treasury 0-3 and then 12-4. From there HMT rebuilt well with one batsman celebrating his 25 retired
extravagantly. One the highlights was Vijay taking a stumping (his first for the club) off Chrissie although
there was a disappointing incident later where he continued an argument with the umpire. 8 bowlers bowled 2 overs
with Alok allowed to return taking 2 wickets in 2 balls (but avoiding the hat trick). Alok had 4 balls to set
a new club record bowling figures but couldn't get the wicket required. HMT has made 123, which despite what
the Jacksons told us was unlikely to be as easy as ABC. |
It was Rob R's turn for a golden duck but Vijay and George
settled nerves both reaching retirement. However 54-1 somehow turned into 57-7 and 69-8 with the dismissals
of Rob K (a king pair and 3 ducks in a row) JB, Mike D, Paul G, Konrad, Stan (a 6th golden for us in the day)
and Barry all out for little. Alok, having run out KCZ badly, blocked but suddenly started making huge shots
just as Konrad, Rob K and Rachel Riley were getting nervous. Vijay (51) and later George (27) returned
and we sneaked home with 3 balls spare. |

A truly bizarre match with hapless play
and excellence in pretty much equal measure from both teams. |

Notable drop: Paul dropped two catches, a difficult running one and an easier one on the long off boundary - although I suggest neither is in consideration for the drop of the year. |

Notable catch: We did not take a catch all day! |

Comedy Moment: The six golden ducks caused much merriment. |

Stat: Rob Kinnard's king pair may not be only one in
Superstars history, but another could not recalled. Vijay Anand became one of the 16 people on the planet to have achieved
at least one stumping, catch, wicket and run for this great club. The six golden ducks in the day is surely a record. |
