v HOUNSLOW LEISURE, 15 AUG 2012
Hounslow end Superstars leisurely run
Hounslow Leisure 153-5 beat Superstars 142-7 by 11 runs.
Superstars 6 match winning streak was ended by a strong Hounslow batting performance in a hastily arranged T20 fixture at Imber Court. Hounslow batted first (presumably because they won the toss and chose to!) and showed lots of aggressive intent, particularly off Roy's first over. Roy (4-0-27) tightened up after that, however, and Vijay bowled a great spell (4-1-12-1) so that they were about 50-1 at the halfway stage. SpenO Jr (4-0-16-2) got good bounce from the same end as Vijay and picked up a couple of wickets. Unfortunately the second of these brought Wendel to the crease and he attacked the bowling with gusto. Matt C was unlucky not to get a wicket and to catch the start of Hounslow's onslaught; his 4-0-33-0 didn't reflect a good spell. With 4 overs left it was well balanced but Darth Meyler seemed to lose control of the force and Ian seemed to lose control of his run-up as the next 3 overs went for over 50. SpenO Sr had to bowl the last over and kept it down to 9 runs, picking up a wicket and with a run out off the last ball leaving Hounslow on 153-5.
The chase didn't get off to a great start as SpenO Sr marked his 50th appearance with a golden duck. Matt C didn't let this deter him and his rapid 33 saw Superstars keeping up with the rate. Simon D fell for 8 but at the halfway stage Superstars were in a decent position at 71-3. Ian and Paul made sure the asking rate never got out of hand but boundaries were becoming increasingly hard to come by and the running was taking its toll on both batsmen (not helped by Paul having to rearrange his box after every delivery!). 39 were needed off the last 4 overs and when Paul fell for 37 it looked like it would be too much. Ian (21) and Steve (0 without facing) were both run out and Vijay offered a brief glimmer of hope with quick 12 runs before being bowled. 17 were needed off the last over and James and Barry managed to run 3 from a shot that didn't get off the pitch but in the end the target was just a bit too much.
