MY BEST 5 HOURS FOR A YEAR |
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
It was bad enough that the hell that is parenting prevents me playing
cricket (and pretty much doing anything fun) as much as I should but when a global pandemic comes along it meant
this was my only cricket match in at least 20 months. Did you really think I was going to throw my wicket away
with a whooshing drive in the second over? No, I was going to block as long as the team allowed and enjoy my
escape from "quarantine" and I do love to bat. |

It appears things had changed greatly as Barry not only won the toss
but appeared to make an sensible decision in electing to bat in this 40 over clash. Chairman Conway and I went out
agreeing to bat long enough to allow our missing players to arrive. We did this before MC ensured at least one
nomination in the "player most likely to run you out" award but our stand of 29 for minus 2 wickets must be some
sort of record. From then on Superstars batted ok but never quite got the injection the innings needed.
Sandeep (36), Matt (25) and Alok (23no) the top scorers in a total of 160. Still, runs on the board and
all that and frankly it was a nice sunnyish day with no viruses or children. |

After a self supplied tea where no one left their carrots despite eating them
all the day before Superstars took two early wickets (from Alok and Vijay) and were cock-a-hoop. But S&M weren't looking
for a whipping and put on an excellent partnership until the reliable Dan Forman dismissed Brook for 26. And when
Sandeep dismissed Nichols for 52 Sups felt they had a chance, two more wickets (Sandeep and Dan) had SMCC six down
and SCC were probably ahead. But Malik and Shah played really well and Sups couldn't quite get the wicket
that would have, apparently, exposed a long tail. |

A tight match lost by 4 wickets played in an excellent spirit
is fitting when you're missing the game so much. I got a message on the bus home to say one child wasn't going to
bed nicely and I very nearly went back to my happy place to fall asleep on the wicket. |
