v TILBERG REGENTS, 23RD MAY 2013
SUPERSTARS PRINCES OF BELAIR
SUPERSTARS 155-8 (Spencer 48no, Anand 32no, Singh 28ret) BEAT
TILBERG REGENTS 111-8 (Marchant 3-22, Singh 2-5, Anand 2-8)
Superstars arrived at possibly their first ever game at Belair Park in Dulwich. We were all expecting to see Will Smith but for some reason he wasn't there. Superstars came second in the toss and were asked to bat on an underprepared wicket with a small outfield. The weather was ok, the first signs of summertime.
Bungle and Speno opened the batting. It looked solid until Gaught got a good one and was bowled on the top of off stump. James also got a pretty decent ball and fended it to a very good catch at slip 2 balls later. When captain Gigg was dismissed for 0 and Rick for his first golden duck of his Superstars career (a badge of honour) it wasn't looking great. However Vijay joined Adam and his big hitting could be best described as Boom! Shake the Room. When Adam retired there was some chaos. Raj was run out without facing ball as both batsmen ended up at the same end, when Jason was also run out he was heard to say running with Vijay was more dangerous than the Wild Wild West. Guy hung around for a while and avoided a run out (bolwed). Now Alok entered the fray, asking someone to "Pump Me Up" - which succeeded as he whacked the bowling everywhere. His Willow is a Player. When Alok retired Adam walked out but the oppo suggested as we only had ten that our lowest scorer should bat, fair enough (probably a better rule if we're honest) so Rick returned on a king pair. Thankfully he didn't start a Block Party but kept the increasing pace up before was bowled by a absolutely shooter. Adam and Vijay finished the innings with some fireworks - Adam ending with 48 not out and Vijay 32 not out. Superstars had made 155 - it was difficult to judge if it was a good or bad score but it was certainly a bizarre innings.
The opening of the RSSB innings showed what a fickle beast cricket is. Both Alok and Raj bowled well. Alok getting 2-5 but Raj with edges, dropped catches and a number of plays and misses 0-21. It was however a good start. Guy and Jason then entered the attack - with again Jason (3-22) getting the luck that Guy (0-43) didn't. By this point Superstars were in control of the match and only some poor bowling or inspired batting would prevent Superstars celebrating Big Willie Style. Luckily Rick and Vijay did the job effectively and Tilber made 111.
After a run of very close matches a clear victory for Superstars. We were cooler than the Men In Black when the pressure was on and victory was deserved even if Will Smith didn't show.
Superstars Line Up:
Gigg (capt), Gaught, Smith, Trivedi, Marchant, Boulby, Spencer, Nichols, Anand, Singh.
