If you have ever wondered what happened to 80's gameshow supremo Jim Bowen (the 'B' is silent) then look no further; he is currently turning out for the Superstars. Following an early career as a stand up comedian and then subsequent presenter of Saturday evening favourite Bullseye, Jim has now moved on to greater things re-creating himself as an effective, and stylish batsman who's a pretty handy off-spinner to boot.
Jim made his debut for Superstars in 2011 and with best bowling figures of 4 for 17 might look as though he knows what he's doing with the ball. An economy rate of 10 would beg to differ. His batting is similar with the ability to make quick runs but also the ability to make a quicker exit from the crease. Jim has shown himself to be a good fielder - by which i mean not as hopeless as most the rest of the squad.
Jim's real skill though is back in the pavilion; whether it's buying birthday sambucas, singing 'Kiss from a rose' - honestly you wouldn't know is wasn't Seal singing if you closed your eyes - or simply showing us he hasn't lost his touch on the dartboard, Jim is a stalwart of the Superstars social scene. "Super, smashing, great" as Jim would say.
It is not know if Jim owns a speedboat, but if you see one in South London it probably is his.....
Jim is still a relative newcomer so has not reached any of the prestigous "Stats Clubs" but given his all round abilities he is looking a good bet to make it. Keep an eye out for that, especially once his obvious class shows at the crease. He is already one of the few players to have scored a run, taken a wicket, caught a catch and earned a stumping for the club.
