Rick is one of Superstars three overseas stars (alongside Scott -Australia, and Steve -Wales) as he is from the North. More specifically he is from Manchester, and amazingly supports Manchester United which I thought was the preserve of people from the South. He's even watched them live and everything. I wondered if he was a Southerner at one point but I noticed him stand to attention and place his hand on his chest when the Coronation Street theme came on in one pub last year.
Although to compare Rick to the great Sir Garfield Sobers would clearly be foolish Rick is also a complete all rounder. He bats, bowls seam, bowls spin, likes a post match beer, keeps wicket and fields well close and in the deep. I'm not sure what his umpiring and scoring is like though. This all rounder status is obviously a boon and gives Rich variety and captains options but I guess can imply he's a jack of all trades etc. This isn't really the case, he's very capable at all of those, possibly the drinking is the leading attribute - although Tour 2014 might decide that. He's also young. Damn you sir!
Rick made his debut in 2013 but already become a regular member of squad making 18 appearences in that one season. Such enthusiasm will no doubt be drummed out of him after embarrassing performances all over London. He made 206 runs and took 16 wickets - one of the 4 people to qualify for both batting and bowling averages and probably the only one who kept wicket as well. He'll be one of the greats if we can hang on to him and he stays sober. Well soberish..
As a relative newcomer Rick has not reached any of the prestigous "Stats Clubs" but given his all round abilities and youth he is looking a good bet to make it quickly. Keep an eye out for that.
