MATCH REPORT
Opponent
CHARLATANS
Sunday 11th August, 1.30pm start.
Greenwich Park, Blackheath.
35 overs, low pitch and quite long boundaries.
YOU'RE SO PRETTY - WE'RE SO PRETTY
Superstars arrived at the lovely Greenwich Park ground, around 20 years after our last appearance here, to take on new opponents the Charlatans. George was Tellin' Stories that they had a high class spin attack while Barry lost the lost, but the opposition captain wasn't sure how many players he had so ask for a minute or two to make his decision so Barry said "Just while you're thinking things over I'll find out where Bish is". We were asked to field.
With Bish still in Wonderland Superstars started with 10 with Alok and Matt S opening the bowling. The Superstars fielding curse went from one to another with notable drops from Paul, Barry and many others through the innings. Barry gave 8 bowlers overs, including North Country Boy Chrissie as well as Lawrie (who took four wickets), Vijay, Chris, Diwakar and Johnny B - who ran in to his own theme tune of 'Go Johnny Go' (unfortunately not a Charlatans track) from a nearby stage. The Charlatans has made 174, which drew a response of "How high?" by many Superstars.
Whether we could make the 5-an-over target was down to Us and Us Only. Barry elect Paul and JB to open the batting, which had people suggesting he was a Weirdo but when the two opening bowlers delivered with pace and movement it was almost impossible but they fought to 36-0 off 10 overs and the game was in the Melting Pot. However, as is often the case, losing a player of such class as Gaught (18) saw the innings come Crashin' In as we lost 8 wickets for a further 36. With the rate per Over Rising the Only One I Know who can get Superstars home is Alok, but despite some huge hits that were almost up at the lake his 30 was no enough and Superstars were beaten by 60 runs.
An excellent ground and nice opponents. If only we'd been a bit more competitive it might have been perfect. Still I never want an easy life if me and he were ever to get there.
