KAMELLARD SAVES THE DAY IF NOT THE MATCH. |

On one of the coldest June evenings in living memory
Superstars arrived at the Rec to discover that there were no stumps in the changing rooms.
A quick check with Argos on line suggested there was a set of stumps in store. Mike K and Barry
hot footed it over to the local Argos (it would have been quicker on foot) and duly purchased
the single remaining set of stumps. With Superstars electing to bat to get the game started we
decided to bowl 10 overs from each end with the non strikers end denoted by a bat propped up with
a pad. With the track a bit damp the ball was seaming around quite a bit and all of us struggled
to put bat to ball - there were 54 dot balls in our innings. Only Vijay truly mastered the
conditions and hit two massive sixes in his 25 which included the obligatory one short. John B
proved it's not me that always runs Paul out and in a typical mid wicket yes/no debate Paul
was out by yards. John B was eventually bowled in the last over for 24. A lusty blow from Gary
off the last ball saw us up to 116-5. |

With an under par score our fielding needed to be
razor sharp - it wasn't and the openers raced to 60 off 8 before Mehboob pushed one in the air
at square leg and then took the catch off Harish's bowling who finished with 2-21. The gloveman
I think it was me dropped a catch off Ian Moxon [Ed - their best batsman too] and missed at least
2 stumpings off Sandeep G - not a good night but my shingles are a lot better. I put it down to
the dodgy gloves we have! Two overs left and just one to win Vijay came on to castle the DEFRA
rabbit and then bowled four dot balls before sending down a leg side bye for DEFRA
to win by 7 wkts. |
