v OFCOM, 28TH JULY 2011
SUPERSTARS WAVE THEIR WAND-WORTHY OVER OFCOM
Superstars 139-7 (Mountain 27ret, Gaught 25no) BEAT
OFCOM 75 all out (Moxon 3-17, Plume 2-1) by 64 runs.
On possibly the first beautiful, sunny, evening of the year Superstars batted first at Wandsworth Common. Regular(ish) openers, Gaught and Spencer, strolled to the crease. They faced one high quality opening bowler and one pie chucker called Canway or something. Spencer hit some tradmark big blows but unfortunately made a good ball unplayable by yorking himself, for 20 odd. Chris "big hill" come in and hit some huge hits and quickly returned 25 retired. Himanshu entertained the side before being given LBW. All this time Gaught accumulated his 25 retired (31 balls over 14.3 overs!). Sandeep was looking good until getting an unplayable ball from a wicket that was quick but variable (an ideal 2020 wicket really). There was a tail away the tail end struggled with the good opening bowler and the wicket. Superstars ended on 139 for 7.
Superstars regularish opening bowling partnership - Sandeep and Roy - started with Sandeep picking up a wicket in the first over. Their captain looked a good player but the other batsman (Canway, or whatever) wasn't causing too many problems although it took a top delivery by Roy to dismiss him. Once the captain retired wickets fell at regular intervals, with Sandeep, Roy, Ian, James Spencer, Chris Pume and Himanshu all picking up wickets. Catches were taken by Sandeep (2), Chris M and a NINTH of the season for yours truly, Barry picked up a stumping. OFCOM made 80 odd.
A good win for Superstars which was celebrated by queuing for beers in the nearby Hope pub. By the way does anyone have Chris' pants?
