Ken is certainly a Superstars Legend, possibly THE Superstars Legend.
Ken joined the Superstars' Cricket Team in 1988 a year after it was founded. Ken quickly established himself as Superstar's first and most reliable all rounder. Often used primarily as a bowler he was a better batsman than his normal battling position, usually number 10 or 11. This was his decision, unselfishly wishing to give everyone a chance at batting. Having said that the team could rely on the fact that he was well capable of the winning matches even if there had been some middle order battling collapses, something that happen too often in the past. He was also one of Superstars' best ever fielders, making a number of stunning catches throughout his career.
I do not overestimate the importance Ken was to this Cricket Club. Without his drive and contribution to the club over the years it wouldn't have been the successful club it is today and at times it could have folded without him. For many years he was the fixture secretary and main organiser. He produced the stats and also captained the side.
He toured with the club over a number of years and could be relied upon to never make Saturday's match due to his exuberance the night before. He was great company going for a beer or two. Ken introduced Steve Meyler to the club- so it's not an entirely blameless career!!
In 2010 a trophy was bought for the series between Superstars and Dodgers, this was (fittingly) named after Ken and his dedication to the spirit these games were/are played in.
Everyone at the club who have ever known Ken miss him but I believe everyone has a special memory of him. A true superstars' legend!
Ken made 258 appearences for the club between 1988 and 2008, only Barry Gigg and Mike Taylor can beat that total. Primarily considered a bowler Ken took 321 wickets for the club, the record and 48 clear of the second placed Mike Taylor. He is 7th in the bowling averages. Ken is one of only three people to take 100 catches for the club (with 104). Ken scored 1,395 runs for the club (the 9th highest run scorer for the club) at an average of 17,01 (very respectable for someone who often batted in the tail). He currently is one half of the record partnerships for the 9th wicket (63 with Steve Meyler v Dodgers in 2004) and somehow for the 11th wicket (44no with Mike Taylor v DCMS in 2003).
