2018 SURREY TOUR REPORT
The 2018 tour was more of a collection of games, with only a handful of people staying over but they were very nice games against good (probably too good....) opposition with a 67 per cent barbecue hit rate. Given the relative short notice we were grateful for opponents and sunshine.
Friday 4th May. ABINGER.
SUPERSTARS 98-4.
ABINGER HAMMER 99-4.
Superstars lost by 6 wickets.
Very enjoyable game although we only had 10, Gary didn't think Aarun was playing! Matt out for a duck so hasn't reached 5000 runs yet, John B and James Hew got a bit bogged down but Gary came in and hit the biggest six of the day as we reached 98-4. Bowled pretty well downhill but struggled uphill, Konrad and Alok both took 2 wickets all bowled and Mike, James and Barry dropped catches - no catches yet. They reached their target in the 18th over for the loss of 4 wickets. Very nice ground and team and decent bbq afterwards.
Team: Gigg (c), Conway, Chodzko-Zajko, Plahe, Bishop, Hewlett, Singh, Taylor, R.Smith, Varghese.
Sunday 6th May. CHURT.
CHURT 192-5
SUPERSTARS 139 all out
Superstars lost by 53 runs.
A nice ground in Greater Conwayland, Superstars encountered an overseas pro who guided his team to 192 in their 35 overs. It was a tough time in the field but we stuck to our task well and deserved our cracking tea. Given the home fixture it was fitting Matt's promising innings included his 5,000th run for the club. Otherwise i don't remember much apart from we definitely came it respectable and they had an electronic scoreboard. Oh and Churt stepped in at very short notice when Mickleham weren't able to play at their ground.
Team: Gigg (c), Gaught, Spencer-Bickle, Conway, Patwal, Bishop, Hewlett, Williams, Forman, Varghese, Hemingway, Anand.
Monday 7th May. NEWDIGATE.
SUPERSTARS 152-8
NEWDIGATE 153-5
Superstars lost by 5 wickets.
Another beautiful ground. Anther overseas pro. Another cracking barbecue. We batted first and Adam definitely scored a few. Apart that i don't remember much of our innings which suggests little brilliance or hapless cricket. Similar in the bowling stakes.
Team: Gigg (c), Gaught, Spencer-Bickle, Meyler, Patwal, Williams, Forman, Chodzko-Zajko, Anand, Plahe, Singh, Harris.
