THE RACE TO 50 WICKETS |
Ad-Hoc (162) beat Superstars (101) by 61 Runs |
Superstars managed to field 10 players, including
Matt's son Ben who was nearly 15 and Steve who was unable to run. |
It was a lovely evening and Superstars were in
high spirits only slightly dampened by the realisation that as Barry and Bish means a run out,
Barry managed to lose the toss......... again! |

It was a welcome return to the Cricket pitch for
Roy who hadn't played for around 3 years. He didn't look out of practice when opening the
bowling, which Matt rightly described as mellifluous. Roy managed to clean bowl the two
openers backed up by Elliott who was also bowling well and troubling the batsmen. Unfortunately,
a combination of Ad Hoc's batsmen clinically dispatching the odd bad ball and some dodgy
fielding on a bumpy outfield by us, contributed to Ad Hoc scoring quickly.
Two notable exceptions were Ben not making any mistakes and therefore outshining his
father (seems to be a pattern here!) and Jaimi running out one of their batsmen with a
direct underarm throw. The first bowling change came with Konrad at one end and Dan the other
both looking to get their 50 wickets for Superstars. Konrad bowled well, without any reward
but helped to reduce the run rate, only conceding 21 runs from his 4 overs. It was clear
that Barry had money on Konrad to get to 50 wickets first as he failed to get the simplest
of stumpings of Dan bowling, however soon after that Dan decided the only way forward
was to clean bowl the batsmen and he managed 2 of these. Dan now joins the 50 wicket
club and will join the others on the Honours Board (well the virtual one anyway).
Well done Dan, Konrad will soon be there too! A few over from Bish and one from Jaimi
completed Ad Hocs innings, three of their batsmen retiring on 25. |

It was always going to be a very tough ask.
Barry, Bish and Steve all out in single figures but Matt playing well to retire on 25.
Steve was also grateful for the good running between the wickets of both Jaimi and Elliott
who both ran for him at some point. Steve walked on a sweep caught behind even if Barry
called it a wide. Decent batting from both Jaimi and Elliott both reaching double
figures before Jaimi was bowled, Elliott not out at the end. Konrad battling at 7,
Dan at 8 and Roy at 9 soon followed Jaimi. This left Matt's son Ben at 10
(or Ben 10 as we needed superpowers at that time), to face the final two balls.
The crowd (social distanced) were anticipating Ben first run for the club, so when they
ran a single on the penultimate ball cheers were quickly followed by jeers when Barry
signalled a bye. Missed stumping, signalling wide on a caught behind and this was
the final straw. On the plus side 'Specsavers' are keen to meet with Barry to
discuss sponsorship. |

Although Ad Hoc were worthy winners
we all felt like winners for actually 'getting out' to play. |
