Ken Block Trophy, Match 1 of 2 in the 2020 series.
Our first match after COVID-19 lockdown.
SUPERSTARS KEN DO IT.
And so, after a long lockdown and a long wait for our hugely competent
government to give guidelines we were allowed to play cricket again. It was mid July and the best way to start a
shortened season is surely a game against friendly rivals Dodgers in what was booked in as a two match series,
however in this year of all years nothing could be guaranteed. Having said that we could probably guaranteed a
gloomy day, having had sun throughout lockdown and a few late arrivals for a variety of reasons.
Barry won the toss (it was a strange year) and elected to bowl on a
gloomy day where is was likely to be dark come the second innings. Alok (3-2-1-0) and winter signing Tom Chadwick
(3-0-8-1) set the tone for a tidy bowling stint on a stodgy wicket. Dodgers made 99-4 mainly thanks to Kamal's 26
retired and Ralph Palmer's late order 14 not out. The kind of target that can be difficult on a stodgy wicket.
Superstars were keen to not get behind the rate with Conway and debutant
Holden aggressive. It worked and Sups were 58-0 in 8 overs but when those two retired there were a few jitters as 4
wickets went down. Superstars had a bit of headroom, given the fast start, and 13 runs in the 15th over virtually
secured it. In the end Alok (a very handy 19no) and Gary (2no) secured the win after 16.4 overs.
A good victory that meant Superstars were still unbeaten in
2020 despite it being mid July.
