Match Report
Superstars gathered by the river for the game against Bricklayers' Arms. It rained for about 30 minutes for the game but with such dry weather for weeks beforehand and the quick drying ground the game was able to go ahead, the only allowances being the game would only be 18 overs and all bowling from one end because of the infamous low sun. Bricklayers refused to play batting retirements or even limiting bowling overs.
Barry, inevitably, lost the toss and we were asked to field. With Gary late an injured John and a not overly willing opening bowler Sam stepped up in slippery conditions that caused irregular bounce and landing foot problems. Gary did arrive and his first action was a pinpoint throw from Cover to nail the stumps and his second was a throw that haplessly went behind him. All in all 7 Superstars (Sam, John B, Gary, Mike D, Chris T, Jack and James H) bowled and despite having to bowl to a short boundary on the leg side and to a batsman allowed to score over 25 (one scored 55) kept the opposition to a reasonable 136 in 18 overs, helped by some decent fielding including a good catch by James Hewlett of a spinning ball, back pedalling in wet conditions.
Bricklayers bowled well up front and even Paul GA lost patience in an unlikely attempt to chase the 7.5 runs an over (which now reached 9). Ben Bard did a Graham Gooch impression by starting his career with two ducks (so I'm predicting 8,900 career Superstars runs for Ben) and Barry gave it a go too. Probably wisely James H (13), Jack (22, having opened), Sam (19no) and Steve (9no) played out the innings. Superstars made 89-5 and dignity was ensured.
A good effort from Superstars but not a great advert for friendly cricket really, although the pub afterwards was good fun.

Notes
This was Chris Thomson's last game before a spell in New York (presumably organising a future Superstars tour).
Gary's fielding (good and bad) was a highlight.
