2nd "tie"m lucky... |
The Mighty Superstars take on the protagonists for the second match of the prestigious Ken Block
Trophy series. With our old foes scrambling a tie in the first match this was a critical game for Dodgers as they attempt to
preserve what little honour they have left - "but what's that I hear you say?" Only 3 Dodgers are actually playing and they
have 8 ringers? Ralph clearly emptied the Dodgers kitty to pay for all these ringers, two of which sat and changed with
the Superstars as they had no clue who they had been paid to play for....... |
Skipper Conway won the toss and elected to bat on what proved to be a very sticky and tricky
wicket but Superstars were ready to take on the challenge. Opening the batting George quoted "I WAS BORN READY FOR THIS!".
Warren and Conway showed a masterclass in batting and made a mockery of the dodgers ringers, scoring a well deserved 20
and 19 respectively and dealing with the persistent chirping from the outfield. Bish started well but an injury caused
him to retire on 11 (n.o). Gibbs, Nick AP and debutant Farnham got out to some great bowling on a wicket that was a sticky as Marmite...
Clearly Vijay LOVES Marmite as he smashed a quick 25 in 22 balls but a ringer took a great catch for his wicket.
Plahe went in, all the fielders moved to leg side, the catch was taken in cow corner. This left Sears and Alok to score
a rapid 10 partnership with 2 and 8 runs respectively giving Superstars a very respectable 107 on a very tricky wicket. |
The defence started well with Sears and Alok both bowling economically and quick on a
slow pitch with figures (Alok: 4/1/11/0 & Sears: 4/0/18/0). Vijay & Plahe had a go next with VJ breaking the partnership
with the wicket of Radcliffe. Debutant Farnham bowled well to bag 2 great wickets ending with figures (Farnham: 4/0/23/2).
Aran Sokhi arrived late but made up for it with a fantastic clean bowl of Mohan. Warren performed a great stumping and
Dodgers were starting to look fragile but NJ had set a good batting pace and also maneuvered the Superstars
field around to help his scoring options... Skipper Conway in a true "Root" esc manoeuvre came on to bowl a fantastic
19th over taking a wicket with great economy with figures (Conway: 1/0/5/1). |
11 runs were required off the final over and debutant Farnham kept his cool with ball,
the field placement and fielding in general was fantastic with NJ striking at every ball but Farnham took an
amazing dive off his own bowling to save a 4 runs! |
3 runs required off the final ball saw Dodgers run a 2 for yet another tie,
a truly great game of cricket and a fitting end to the game. |
Superstars keep the Ken Block Trophy
series alive for the 40 over match decider! |

This tie was the 10th in the club's history and the third of the season. I've no idea what the odds on the first
two matches of a series being a tie are but it's probably on a par with England's top 3 seeing off the first 20 overs of a test innings. |
1. Farnham debut, Farnham dive on debut to save a bullet shot off NJ. |
2. Amazing fielding (especially Bish, Sam G and Nick AP) despite have 10 men through the game due to late arrival and early departure. |
3. Vijay and NJ having polite discussion during the match. |
4. George telling a fielder to "SHUT IT". |
5. Our skipper having the Dodgers' umpire replaced for unfair play. |
