STARS MADE TO SWEAT BY KW |
We started a bit late due to Abhi being stuck in traffic with Vijay's kit. Paul went
out for the toss while some of us wondered if there was any point, knowing that Paul would opt to bowl and the oppo
likely to bat. Paul won, we were bowling, 20 overs, changing ends only after 10. It was hot.
Konrad opened with his usual prodigious inswing, tucking the batters up but leaking
a few wides. Vijay was second up, and we saw the batters looking to take on any width outside off. Abhi replaced Vijay
and tempted one opener into a cut shot against the spin, which Paul took in both hands after leaping a whole inch
(or two) off the ground. |
Aaron had a tidy spell of medium pace but offspin continued to carry the greater
threat. Duggan's extreme (lack) of pace frustrated the other opener and No. 3 into horrible heaves across the line
and they were both duely bowled. |
Mountain and Forman took up the task and again while Chris was tidy Dan
showed offspin was the way. Subtle changes of pace led to a stumping by Gigg and a bowled as Wanderers tried to
accelerate in the death overs. The final over (Forman) saw one of the batters, desperate to get back on strike,
brutally stitch up a new man in, which allowed Gaught to be part of a rare run out in the field. The final ball
was hit high and handsome but straight to Abhi, who took a relaxed catch. It is worth mentioning good work
in the field, despite a fast and bumpy surface particularly from Diwaker, which helped restrict Kensington to 123 for 6. |
Diwaker and Matt C opened the Superstars innings. Diwaker initially struggled
to lay a bat on accurate outswing from the Kensington opening bowler. Matt had more joy with the other bowlers and
retired 25 n.o. Aaron soon topedged one to be caught, and then Diwaker injured his knee coming back for a sharp 2 and retired hurt. |
Abhi and Vijay then took up the chase and powerful striking moved Superstars
ahead of the run rate. They both retired on 25 and it was left to Paul and Chris to knock off last last few runs
for a glorious 9-wicket victory. |
