Match Report
SUPERSTARS PERFORM A CRACKER OVER JACOBS
Superstars arrived at the always glamorous Chiswick megadome (pitch C) for their clash against Jacobs (formerly Tideway and Tideway/Jacobs but despite what the scorebook says never "St Peters"). John Bishop didn't make it due to "a nutter at Gillingham" (cue much hilarity) and so we had 10.
Skipper Gaught-Allen came second in the toss and we were asked to bat. Unfortunately it didn't start well with Paul Gaught-Allen, Diwakar Patwal, Ben Bard and Abhi Dasgupta mustering 13 between them and Superstars were 22-4 after 6 overs. We were staring down the barrell of a first ever defeat to the ever improving Jacobs. This is where you need experience and quality, and this was supplied in varying degrees by Barry Gigg (13), Gary Plahe (a lusty 11) but mainly excellent play from Vijay Anand (27 retired) and Aarron Harris (26 retired). Gary, Az and Vijay put on 51 for the 6th wicket. Konrad Chodzko-Zajko and Dan Forman, with the assistance of Az, got the team to a competitive 131-6.
Sometimes bowling/fielding displays are erratic but excellent moments get wickets that turns the game. In this case Superstars were unfussy but solid. The fielding was tight, the bowling kept the batting side restricted. This meant that while it took until the 11th over to pick up a wicket (a tidy caught behind from Gigg from the bowling of Harris) all the bowling unit (Chodzko-Zajko, Anand, Plahe, Harris, a limping Forman and Dasgupta) did an excellent job keeping Superstars ahead in the game that was never really never really decided to the last two or three overs. Despite some big hitting late a handy catch from Gaught-Allen on the boundary kept Jacobs at bay and in the end 118-3 meant Superstars won by 13 runs.
A good victory against a side with a false record against us. It was noted that Extras were may be the difference (38 in our batting innings, 18 in own bowling innings) and was nominated for the Player of the Match.

Notes
An early nomination for "worst excuse for missing a match" when John Bishop missed the game due to "a nutter at Gillingham".
Decent boundary catch from the skipper (didn't have to move, obviously).
Great performance from Extras.
